The chiropractic approach is based on the principle that the body heals naturally. This natural healing is initiated and controlled in part by the nervous system. Nerve impulses flow down from the brain (central nervous system) to the spinal cord, and out through spinal nerves (peripheral nervous system), to one’s muscles, ligaments, tendons, and vital organs.

Interference within the nervous system due to spinal joint misalignment leads to dis-ease in the body. This dis-ease causes reduction of optimal structure and function. This disruption is called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC)

Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic is a system of adjusting subluxations of the cervical spine by means of its uppermost vertebra (C1 aka the “atlas”) - the top bone in the spine which supports the head. The actual adjustment is performed with an Atlas Orthogonal Percussion Adjusting Instrument.

Atlas Orthogonal is an engineering term. Orthogonal means 90° (a right angle), and in this case, is specifically concerned with the relative position of the atlas in conjunction with the head and the rest of the cervical spine.

Orthogonal means 90° (a right angle).

Atlas Orthogonal treatment was developed by Dr. Roy Sweat in the late 1960’s, based on scientific and biomechanical procedures. Dr. Sweat is considered by many to be one of the world’s foremost authorities on the cervical spine.

After years of extensive research, Dr. Sweat developed a non-invasive, precision instrument to restore structural integrity from cervical vertebral malposition. The percussion instrument achieves postural restoration without manipulation or surgery. This precision treatment reduces cervical spine misalignment and its related symptomatology.

Atlas Orthogonal is a gentle, effective and proven chiropractic technique that does not utilize physical manipulation. According to Dr. Sweat’s research, if the Atlas is not square to the head and spine (referred to as subluxated), then the head and spine are also out of alignment.

Essentially, if the head is not on straight, then the spine cannot possibly be straight. The resulting stress that ensues may cause discomfort to the back, shoulders, pelvis, hips, knees and ankles.

Evolved from 35 years of empirical study and 15 years of clinical research, the Activator Method
Chiropractic Technique (AMCT) uses the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations to seek joint dysfunction in the spinal column and extremities for improved patient care.

AMCT uses the Activator Adjusting Instrument to give consistent low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments. This unique hand-held instrument was scientifically designed to give a very specific, "low force" adjustment. The Activator Instrument delivers a controlled, light and fast thrust, without causing undue strain to patients.

Activator adjustments are so quick and controlled, the patient's muscles are less likely to resist, allowing for a more precise and exact adjustment.
