About Dr. James Odell

Dr. James Odell, ND, OMD, L.Ac. is the Executive Director of the Bioregulatory Medicine Institute (BRMI). He has been practicing bioregulatory medicine in the United States for over two decades.

James graduated with a doctorate in naturopathy in 1980 from US International University (USIU was renamed Alliant International University in 2001 and no longer offers naturopathic medicine studies). After naturopathic college, James completed a three-year post-doctoral program in traditional Chinese medicine at Shantou University Medical College, with medical residences at Shantou University Teaching Hospital, Shantou Central Hospital, and Shiwan Hospital.

Upon returning from China, he completed several internships in European bioregulatory medicine at the Paracelsus Klinik, Lustmühle, Switzerland. James is certified in acupuncture and a PDA provider with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is licensed in acupuncture in Kentucky, Colorado, South Carolina, and Utah. He is a Certified Tuina Instructor with the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia, and is a Certified Traditional Naturopath with the American Naturopathic Certification Board.

For over 10 years, James was the education coordinator for the Biological Medicine Network, which conducted conferences on the principles and practices of European bioregulatory medicine.

Aside from a busy medical practice in Louisville, James is the owner and CEO of Phytodyne Inc., which is the North American importer and distributor of Ceres Heilmittel AG plant remedies manufactured in Switzerland.

He is also the author of the 700+-page groundbreaking new text entitled Breast Cancer: the Rest of the Story (a reference work 13 years in the making).

My quote:

“Cancer isn’t the tumor.  It’s the terrain.”

Episode Highlights with Dr. Odell

  • The book Breast Cancer: The Rest of the Story began as a paper that Dr. Odell was handing out to his patients over 10 years ago.

  • Published as an ebook, to enable changes to be made as new therapies, studies, and findings emerge

  • The book combines both western conventional medicine with ancient and bioregulatory medicine

  • The importance of pH plays a role in cancer and healing from cancer.  As we age, we become more acidic, and that depletes the voltage of our cells.  It also depletes the oxygenation of the cells.  Hence, alkalizing the body is important.

  • Electrolytes are very important to increase the voltage of the body.  We are often deficient of magnesium, and potassium.  These two minerals are important in regulating the autonomic nervous system.

  • Detoxification is also crucial in remaining cancer-free, or healing from cancer.

  • Trace minerals also add to the voltage of the body.

  • If you have a breast cancer diagnosis, remember!  It is not an immediate “911-situation.”  You do have some time to find a good team of practitioners and therapies to help you work through the reasons why you have breast cancer, and how to heal from it.

  • There is a psychoemotional aspect to the terrain that gives rise to cancer, which often gets overlooked.  It is common for a disruptive trauma or extreme stress to tip the scales of the immune system, and provide a terrain conducive for cancer to grow.

  • Breast cancer can be an opportunity to practice radical self-care and balance a life.  (Of course, this can be done before cancer ever appears!)

  • The breast tissue is fed with an oxygen-rich supply of blood, which drains into the lymphatic system

  • Radiation of breast tissue can affect the heart and cause cardiac problems in the future

  • Reducing tumor mass is important, however, treating the terrain is essential

  • Deeply treating estrogen metabolism is also essential

  • Working with the thymus can be helpful to decrease the potential for metastasis

  • Remember – the cancer didn’t develop overnight, and it will take a while to eradicate it

  • Dr. Odell believes cancer causation is both pyschoemotional and physical

  • Our emotions regulate many of our hormones and chemical production – it is not far-fetched to suspect that psychoemotional factors influence cancer

  • Heavy metals within the mouth in the way of amalgam fillings directly affect the propensity to cancer

  • Root canals within the mouth also produce problems within the terrain

  • Mammography is a major source of medical radiation

  • The cancer industry is an industry – check out the chapter on The Politics of Cancer for more information
