About Jodi Cohen

Jodi Cohen is a bestselling author, award-winning journalist, and founder of Vibrant Blue Oils, a top resource for essential oils online, which welcomes 300,000 visitors every year. After personally experiencing the profound physical and mental benefits of essential oils in addressing her own anxiety, insomnia, and autoimmunity, Jodi wanted to know why. Today, she holds certifications in nutritional therapy, functional neurology, herbalism and aromatherapy, along with multiple continuing educational courses in plant medicine, brain health, Chinese medicine and herbalism.

  • Through personal crises and circumstances, Jodi discovered essential oils – specifically when faced with extreme adrenal fatigue, she used muscle testing to apply certain oils around her head to address her pineal gland to correct imbalances.

  • Using herself as a “guinea pig” and finding success with health improvements, others began coming to her for help.  This led to more research which yielded the fact that there were really no others using essential oils to address the brain.

  • Eventually Jodi began creating essential oil test kits for healers to use in their practice.

  • Jodi disagrees with some of the larger essential oil companies’ recommendations to ingest and diffuse oils often.  This could be more of a marketing strategy than an effective method of treatment.  In contrast, using them topically on acupuncture points can be most effective. 

  • When considering sympathetic (fight/flight) state, and parasympathetic (rest/digest/recover) state – our thoughts inform much of this, as well as the Vagus nerve (Cranial Nerve X).

  • There is a small divot between the bottom lobe of the ear and the mastoid bone – this is the location where the vagus nerve most accessible to the surface of the skin.  There are several ways to activate and tone the vagus nerve, but many recommended methods are unpleasant (such as gagging oneself).  Many oils are considered “stimulatory.”  When combining certain oils with medium-sized molecules with a citrus oil such as lime, which has small molecules, it will enter through the skin quickly, and remain in the body for an extended time.  This can have a similar effect as using an acupuncture needle!

  • How often to use the oils?  Make it easy to do, and attractive.  Stack the habits – if you brush your teeth every morning and night, add oils into that routine.  This will make it simple and effective.

  • There are five areas that can be most impactful for using essential oils:

  • The parasympathetic system

  • Sleep / the Pineal Gland and/or the pancreas/blood sugar

  • Lymph Flow

  • Reducing Inflammation

  • Immune Support

  • Spearmint and Vitax is a blend to support the lymph.

  • The power of intention is amplified with essential oils.  When applying the oils, maintain a clear intent.

  • The sense of smell is a powerful trigger for positive memories, communication, and survival.  Using the sense of smell to detect which oils will nourish you is a free, and effective.

  • If you are prone to anxiety or panic attacks, the right frontal lobe is overactive.  An easy way to mitigate this is to smell something fragrant (an oil, a freshly peeled orange,) through the left nostril.  This will help regulate the right frontal lobe.

  • Considering the volatile current events of the world, tapping into your parasympathetic nervous system is a way to reclaim your power to simply breathe and not allow external circumstances to dominate your thoughts or your health.
